Grey Market Premium (GMP) refers to the difference between the price at which IPO shares are traded in the unofficial “grey market” and the IPO issue price. The grey market operates outside the formal stock exchanges and is not regulated by authorities like SEBI. Transactions here are based on mutual trust, and shares are bought and sold before the official listing date.

1. If the IPO issue price is ₹500 and the GMP is ₹150, then the shares are trading in the grey market at ₹650 (₹500 + ₹150). This suggests investors expect the stock to list at around ₹650.
2.  A low or negative GMP means investors may expect the stock to list below the issue price.
3. The GMP is used as an indicator of investor sentiment and expected listing gains.
